Brought to you by PIMMS, goodwill and a mild sense of dread.
The summer heat has finally relented, the lawn has forgiven us for last season, and the committee has dusted off its mallets. It’s time for the Autumn Mallet Off, the traditional curtain-raiser to the new Dubqi Croquet Clements Cup season.
Think of it as a warm-up. A friendly among frenemies. A “gentle reintroduction to the sport”. The Captain will say this with a straight face right up to the moment he is dribbling a ball through the first hoop with the focus of a man defending his honour.
New players are especially welcome. Absolutely no experience is required, only whites (or approximations of whites), a sense of humour and the ability to lose gracefully. Ben will be on hand to demonstrate the last of these.
There will no doubt be cucumber sandwiches, scones and iced tea. Possibly PIMMS. Almost definitely PIMMS.
Mallet off @ 14:30, Safa Park, by the big tree.
Come play with our balls. Register your interest with the committee NOW!
